Dr. Joseph Walline MD is an emergency medicine specialist physician and former U.S. Fulbright Scholar with over fifteen years of clinical, research, and teaching experience in the United States, mainland China, and Hong Kong. He is currently an honorary assistant professor at the Centre for the Humanities and Medicine at the University of Hong Kong and a lecturer in the Accident and Emergency Medicine Academic Unit at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He completed his BA in History of Science and History of Medicine at Yale University, his postgraduate MD training at Drexel University, and his emergency medicine specialist training at Cornell-affiliated NewYork-Presybterian Queens.
Dr. Walline’s research agenda focuses on comparative trauma care in international emergency medicine settings. He has published numerous articles in the field of emergency medicine, including on airway management, bedside ultrasound, resuscitation, acute infectious disease, toxicology, trauma care, and COVID-19. He has extensive experience providing emergency care for a diverse range of patients, engaging medical students and residents with innovative pedagogical approaches, and conducting collaborative research with transnational research teams.
Prior to Hong Kong, Dr. Walline was Associate Professor and Assistant Director of the Emergency Medicine training program at Saint Louis University. His clinical and teaching efforts have been recognized through awards such as Best Teacher of the Year, Best Doctor of the Year, and Caring Physician Award at Saint Louis University Hospital.
