Sign up to learn how to sew fabric masks!

In March 2021, we invited students at Education University of HK (EdUHK) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) to submit designs for a fabric mask design contest that applies cultural psychology research. Winning images were professionally re-designed for fabric printing, printed on fabric. For the next step, interested participants have the opportunity to learn how to sew these images into fabric masks in the following mask-sewing workshops:

The in-person workshop will be held on Wednesday, 23 June 2021 from 9:30am-11:30am at EdUHK. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, this workshop is only open to current EdUHK students. Materials and sewing machines will be available for use.

The online workshop will be held on Zoom on Monday, 28 June 2021 from 9:30am-11:30am and is open to the first ten eligible registrants. You should have your own sewing machine or be willing to sew by hand. Please register ASAP in order to receive the fabric samples and materials in time by signing up here: https://eduhk.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cP8IzUxZrrDtFoG

Workshops will be taught by Melissa Kho Yeaman (https://www.insomniactextiles.com/), who is an experienced fabric artist, knitter and crafter who sells her work, including fabric mask covers, on Etsy. She’s excited about having a “maker mindset” and educating others about crafting and fabric artistry!

These workshops are part of the Knowledge Transfer project 05940 “Mask Wearing Behaviors and Attitudes: Cultural and Individual Influences” to Dr. Emma Buchtel (Department of Psychology, EdUHK). See https://emma-buchtel.wixsite.com/home/masks for more information.
